Size Guide

Every piece we sell is measured against UK sizing. If you are between sizes, or shopping a brand you have not tried before, the tables below will help you order the right size first time.

Women's clothing

Quick rule: your UK size is your EU size minus 28, or your US size plus 4.

Body measurements

Measure over your underwear, keeping the tape level and comfortably loose. UK sizing is usually quoted in inches.

Between sizes? For fitted styles — bodycon, tailored, anything with a defined waist — take the larger size. For relaxed styles, knitwear and coats, take the smaller.

Shoes and boots

Boots are listed in UK sizes, with half sizes where the style allows. If you wear a half size and only whole sizes are shown, take the size up — particularly in knee high styles, where a little room at the calf is welcome.

A note on S, M and L

Some styles — mainly knitwear, jackets and coats — are sold in letter sizes rather than UK numbers. Letter sizing is not standardised, and it varies between makers, so we do not publish a single conversion that would be wrong for half our range. Where a letter size maps to a specific UK size, we state it on the product itself, like this: M (UK 12-14).

If a piece you like shows only S, M or L and you would like the measurements before you order, email us at info@sophiemayfair.com and we will check the garment for you. We would rather spend five minutes now than have you send it back.
